Have you read THE BELOVED WILD yet?
Borrow a copy today, so you’ll be ready for the upcoming events for our second one book/one community LYNDONVILLE READS!
Lovingly crafted by Orleans County author and teacher, Melissa Ostrom, you will laugh and cry along with Harriet Winter (or is it Freddy?) as she devises a clever way to make her way west, to help settle The Black North, specifically, in the Town of Gaines, in the early 1800s.
JOIN OUR BOOK DISCUSSION on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 PM at the Library. We’ll have a casual conversation about the book over refreshments. All are welcome!
ATTEND THE AUTHOR TALK on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7:00 PM at the Library. Melissa will tell about her love of writing, why she wanted to write historical fiction about our area, and will show us some of the sources she used for her research. On hand will be reasonably-priced copies of Melissa’s two published novels, THE BELOVED WILD and UNLEAVING, should you wish to purchase and have signed by the author when you meet her. Refreshments provided, and everyone is welcome!
Additionally, Melissa is greatly looking forward to meeting and working with several high school classes at Lyndonville Central School during the day on Sept. 12! She will explore some ways for students to enhance their writing. She’ll also meet and have lunch with younger members of a school writing club.
Almost Time for RISE & SHINE READING TIME!

The latest LYNDONVILLE READS is launching! This second offering in the Library’s one book/one community project is THE BELOVED WILD, by Orleans County author Melissa Ostrom. Starting now, readers can delve into this tale of an independent-minded teenage girl of two centuries ago, who devises a clever way to make her way, along with her brother, from their New England home to settle in The Black North: the area of the western NY frontier that would become Orleans County.
Then get set to meet Melissa and talk about her book with her at the library on Thursday, September 12, at 7:00 PM. This event will also be a feature of the 4th Annual Orleans County Heritage Festival.
Stop by for a copy of THE BELOVED WILD, and to learn more details!
