Resources for your Local History and Genealogy Searches
Yates Community Library maintains a limited collection of books and other materials on the history of Lyndonville and the Town of Yates. A visit here to browse these resources is a useful start to provide background for your research. Although we are not staffed to do individual genealogical searches, we can refer you to resources such as those below, and possibly to one of the local individuals who perform such searches.
We have most issues of the weekly Lyndonville Enterprise newspaper (1906-1962) available for you to view on microfilm. We are in the process of having these issues digitized and posted online with other New York State historic newspapers.
The library also has transcriptions and audio CD’s of the Orleans County Historical Association’s Oral History Project, completed in 1982. These consist of 100 interviews with local residents concerning their memories of life in Orleans County from about the year 1900. Photocopies of the transcriptions are available for the regular per-page charge.
